#onthisboroday 1996.... Boro decide not to travel to todays game at Blackburn Rovers claiming they had received verbal assurances from Premier League officials that it would be OK. Boro had sickness problems - a club doctor had verified that 23 of the squad were stricken with a virus - they insisted senior officials agreed constituted just cause to postpone the game. A scandal. The three point deduction relegated a team that finished well clear of the drop zone and scuppered plans for a massive recruitment drive in the summer and hastened the exit of Juninho. Whatever you think about Boros conduct - it was very naive to not get it in writing - the due process that followed was a stitch up designed to cover up both the conduct of league officials and a huge gap in the new and untested rule book. I know that nursing a grudge is part of Teessides DNA but even after 20 years this still really rankles and smells of rodent. This board considers it right and fair....
