or 7 :) good to know on arrival/before arrival Article 1 (duty, VAT): to take up residence most importantly you ll need permit and accomodation(another article will give info on this) You might have personal or household effects that you want to import. (cars, furnitures, clothes etc) You are obliged to pay VAT (8%) and/or duty. (if you arrive from a country in EU good to know that Switzerland is not part of it) However if the goods have been used by you at least 6 months before arrival in Switzerland you ll be granted exemption. BUT you have to write a complete list of items + request for a duty-free import. Useful tip: Try to avoid smaller posts and try to arrange so that you get to the border in working hours. (in case you came by car) good to have itemised invoices on the goods, a smile wont do! Feel free to add (via comment) anything that could be useful for other EXPATS related to this topic!!!
