our 1st public discussion and information session co hosted with SEA and CSNA was a success with close to 100 people attending. The overview of events: 1. Importance of working together across our Evanston community to share information, find solutions. and follow public plans 2. Presentation by Jeanne Lindwall-Urban Planner-What evanston zoning ordinances, comprehensive plans and Lake Front plans mean and why following them is good public policy 3. Review of 4 other self sustaining community cultural arts centers and what they service and how they run. 4.Roula Akioutou - Architect for Berger Mansion -Edgewater- The importance of having a vision and plan. We have the vision-lighthouse landing park and Harley Clarke Mansion should remain in the public domain for public use. Every good project has a plan which includes people power to raise money and working with public officials to find funding. Persitance, patience, working together. 5. Update by John Walsh from CSNA on the City mangers suggestion to Human resources meeting Sept 16th.: City needs to speak with Art Center to establish mutual intentions. Both the city and the Art Center had financial responsibilities to maintain the interior and exterior of the Mansion, neither party lived up to the responsibilities. 6. Public Discussion: ranged from working together to establish a new vision for a cultural arts center with multi purpose if the Art Center decides to leave- or create a lake front park and dismantle the buildings thereby alleviating future expenses for upkeep of the building. This is just the 1st discussion - our next public discussion will be in Oct.
