PRICE RECOMMENDS THE PURITAN HARD DRIVE ow.ly/gAtQr They who love any thing better than Christ are not worthy of him. - Covenanter field Minister James Renwick, on the day of his martyrdom (on the Puritan Hard Drive bit.ly/ci3g2z) I lay down this maxime of Divinitie; Tyranny being a worke of Sathan, is not from God, because sinne either habituall or actuall, is not from God; the power that is, must be from God; the Magistrate as Magistrate, is good, in nature of office, and the intrinsecall end of his office, Rom. 13:4. for he is the Minister of God for thy good; and therefore a power ethicall, politick, or morall, to oppresse, is not from God, and is not a power, but a licentious deviation of a power, and is no more from God, but from sinfull nature, and the old serpent, then a license to sinne. - Samuel Rutherford, Lex Rex (1644) on the Puritan Hard Drive ow.ly/fPY4o What Is A Christian Nation? Christs Kingship And Lordship Over the Nations by Greg Price (17 Free MP3s) ow.ly/wczKM or puritandownloads/what-is-a-christian-nation-christs-kingship-and-lordship-over-the-nations-by-greg-price-17-free-mp3s/ ...he [Richard Cameron-ed.] went over to Holland in the year of 1678, not knowing what work the Lord had for him there; where he conversed with Mr. MWard [Robert McWard-ed.] and others of the banished Worthies. In his private conversation and exercise in families, but especially by his public sermon in the Scots Kirk at Rotterdam, he was most refreshing unto many souls. He dwelt mostly upon conversion work, from that text, Matt. 11:28: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest; which was most satisfying and agreeable to Mr. MWard and Mr. Brown [John Brown of Wamphray-ed.], and others who had been informed by the Indulged, and those of their persuasion, that he could preach nothing but babble against the Indulgence, cess paying, etc. Here he touched upon none of these things, except in prayer when lamenting over the deplorable case of Scotland by means of defection and tyranny. About this time Mr. MWard said to him, Richard the public standard has now fallen in Scotland; and, if I know anything of the mind of the Lord, ye are called to undergo your trials [ordination exam-ed.] before us, to go home, and lift the fallen standard, and display it publicly before the whole world. But before you put your hand to it, ye shall go to as many field ministers as ye can find, and give them your hearty invitation to go with you; and if they will not go, go alone, and the Lord will go with you. Accordingly he was ordained by Mr. MWard, Mr. Brown, and Roleman, a famous Dutch divine. When their hands were lifted up from his [Richard Camerons-ed.] head, Mr. MWard continued this still and cried out, Behold all ye beholders, here is the head of a faithful minister and servant of Jesus Christ, who shall lose the same for his masters interest, and it shall be set up before sun and moon, in the view of the world. (John Howie, The Scots Worthies, 1781, SWRB reprint, p. 423, emphases added). On July 22, 1680, faithful Richard Cameron was martyred in Airsmoss. His head and hands cut off and taken to Edinburgh, just as Robert MWard had spoken. Before his murderers committed the barbarous act of publicly displaying his head and hands upon the Netherbow Port, they first had one further act of antichristian cruelty to enact. His father being in prison for the same cause, they carried them [Camerons head and hands-ed.] to him, to add grief unto his former sorrow, and inquired at him if he knew them. Taking his sons head and hands which were very fair - being a man of fair complexion like himself - he kissed them, and said, I know - I know them; they are my sons - my own dear sons. It is the Lord - good is the will of the Lord, who cannot wrong me nor mine, but hath made goodness and mercy to follow us all our days. After which, by order of the Council, his head was fixed upon the Netherbow Port, and his hands beside it with the fingers upward. (John Howie, The Scots Worthies, 1781, SWRB reprint, 1997, pp. 428-429). - Greg Barrow, The Covenanted Reformation Defended, Still Waters Revival Books, 1998, pp. 8-9, FREE online at: swrb/newslett/actualnls/CovRefGB.htm. Another instance in which posterity is recognized in covenant obligation is found in Joshua 9:15. This covenant was made between the children of Israel and the Gibeonites. Between four and five hundred years after that time, the children of Israel are visited with a very severe famine, in the days of David. 2 Sam. 21:1. And it is expressly declared by the Lord that, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites. And at the same time, v. 2, that very covenant is recognized, and the breach of it is stated, as being the formal reason of the divine displeasure. Now, had it not been for this covenant, the extirpation of the Gibeonites would not have been imputed to Israel as a thing criminal; for they were comprehended in Canaanitish nations, which God had commanded them to root out. - William L. The sins forbidden in the first commandment are, atheism, in denying or not having a God; idolatry, in having or worshipping more gods than one, or any with or instead of the true God; the not having and avouching him for God, and our God; the omission or neglect of anything due to him, required in this commandment; ignorance, forgetfulness, misapprehensions, false opinions, unworthy and wicked thoughts of him; bold and curious searching into his secrets; all profaneness, hatred of God; self-love, self-seeking, and all other inordinate and immoderate setting of our mind, will, or affections upon other things, and taking them off from him in whole or in part; vain credulity, unbelief, heresy, misbelief, distrust, despair, incorrigibleness, and insensibleness under judgments, hardness of heart, pride, presumption, carnal security, tempting of God; using unlawful means, and trusting in lawful means; carnal delights and joys; corrupt, blind, and indiscreet zeal; lukewarmness, and deadness in the things of God; estranging ourselves, and apostatizing from God; praying, or giving any religious worship, to saints, angels, or any other creatures; all compacts and consulting with the devil, and hearkening to his suggestions; making men the lords of our faith and conscience; slighting and despising God and his commands; resisting and grieving of his Spirit, discontent and impatience at his dispensations, charging him foolishly for the evils he inflicts on us; and ascribing the praise of any good we either are, have or can do, to fortune, idols, ourselves, or any other creature. - Westminster Larger Catechism ow.ly/xX6oH Jim Dodsons Ye That Love the Lord, Hate Evil (Psalm 97:10) and Gods Temporal Judgments Are Signs Of Everlasting Hell To Come For All Who Are Not Christians (Free MP3), With Related Free Reformation Resources About Hell, Gods Wrath, Etc. puritandownloads/jim-dodsons-ye-that-love-the-lord-hate-evil-psalm-97-10-and-gods-temporal-judgments-are-signs-of-everlasting-hell-to-come-for-all-who-are-not-christians-free-mp3-with-related-free-reformation-resources-about-hell-gods-wrat-etc/ False Doctrine and Heresy Are Great Sins, and Judgments From God, By Robert Baillie (Westminster Divine), John Brown of Haddington, Jim Dodson, George Gillespie (Westminster Divine), Greg Price and Others (Free MP3s, Books, Videos, Etc.) puritandownloads/false-doctrine-and-heresy-are-great-sins-and-judgments-from-god-by-robert-baillie-westminster-divine-john-brown-of-haddington-jim-dodson-george-gillespie-westminster-divine-greg-price-and-others-free-mp3s-books-videos-etc/ Trying the Spirits To Avoid Antichrist, His False Doctrine (Arminianism, Sacramentalism, Etc.), His False Worship (the Mass, Man-Made Hymns, Musical Instruments, Etc.), His Holy Days and Much More by Jim Dodson et al. puritandownloads/trying-the-spirits-to-avoid-antichrist-his-false-doctrine-arminianism-sacramentalism-etc-his-false-worship-the-mass-man-made-hymns-musical-instruments-etc-his-holy-days-and-much-more-by-jim/ In this present time, a great many Presbyterians (particularly in North America) have forgotten and implicitly (perhaps unwittingly) rejected their Presbyterian heritage. Strangely, Westminster confessing churches have rejected the theological distinctives of the Westminster Standards. Although the Westminster Assembly produced a beautiful statement of soteriological Calvinism, the histories clearly demonstrate that soteriology was not the principle focus, nor chief interest, of the Assembly. The Westminster Assembly was primarily concerned with uniformity in worship (in accordance with the Regulative Principle), the form of church government (Presbyterianism jus divinum), and Church-State relations (the Establishment Principle). It is a sad irony that the great and distinctive attainments of the Westminster Assembly have been ignored and rejected by so many Westminster confessing churches. However, we may yet entertain the hope that these great attainments are rejected largely because of ignorance. The best books on these subjects have not been readily available; but (thanks be to God) they are available again on the Puritan Hard Drive (bit.ly/ci3g2z). For anyone interested in recovering our Presbyterian and Reformed past, the Puritan Hard Drive (bit.ly/ci3g2z) is a must. It is my hope and prayer that the Puritan Hard Drive (bit.ly/ci3g2z) will be used by God to bring to light the things that were hidden, to call to remembrance the things that were forgotten. - Dr. Steven Dilday, Pastor of Liberty and Grace Reformed Church in Northern Virginia libertyandgracereformed.org/ and sermonaudio/PRCNOVA, President of The Matthew Poole Project matthewpoole.net/, Professor of Hebrew and director of the Ph.D. program in Puritan History and Literature at Whitefield Theological Seminary sermonaudio/sermoninfo.asp?SID=82911013359, also directs the Master of Theology degree in Ecclesiastical Latin.
