p-Neutral: July 5, 2013 at 1:02 pm (Quote) Insofar as properties are concerned, the unhappiness centres on the expensiveness public housing (HDB/BTO/DBSS/Others). Early leaders ensured U have a roof over your head while your land is compulsorily acquired, redeveloped and housed others affected; having a HDB became a ‘birth right’. U get a cheap apartment, the Govt gets cheap land : win-win goal. Now, HDBs are priced near or at ‘imputed market’ rates but salaries rise did not catch up with HDBs price rises. It is best to continue with the ‘birth right’ approach where every Singaporean gets a bite of the cherry/HDB. Go ahead to manage, restrict and control public housing and keep HDB for Singaporeans ONLY. Leave the private property (market) alone with minimum to no control. (The experiment on housing in Sentosa is a good example). The Govt should stop being the ‘nanny from cradle to grave’. If U can afford, and wish to join, the private property market, why do U still need protection? May the buyer beware & be aware.
