*picks up mic* Today marks a genuinely sad day for the Louisville community as beloved local movie rental establishment and city gem Wild and Woolly Video made the announcement that the doors will be closing forever in the coming Spring. I rarely take to Facebook to express my emotions but since this directly affects so many of my friends and family as well as the culture of a unique city Im lucky enough to call my home I figured, “why the heck not?” For me, Wild and Woolly represents much more than a building hosting simple business transactions-- one where I pick a movie, rent it for a couple nights, and inevitably bring it back four days late. This store has played a pivotal role in introducing me not only to an industry I wish to find a career in, but to stories, characters, music and lessons that have all shaped the person I am today and aspire to be tomorrow. The collection of films and television shows at Wild and Woolly, shared by the entire city of Louisville, have provided us all with innumerable opportunities to spend quality time with our friends and family. We have watched these movies and shows together—laughed at Navin Johnson, shrunk in fear from Michael Myers, cringed as the characters on Freaks and Geeks embarrass themselves, swooned over Leo DiCapprio and Sophia Loren (or not, but at least I have), and come together in our living rooms, restaurants, bars, and patios to discuss our reflections with one another. I can say with confidence that this store has had an immensely positive affect on Louisville culture. Words do not describe how grateful I am to Chris, Darren, Neal, Bill, Wayne, Emily, Mike, Brent, Brian, everyone who has been a part of Wild and Woolly over the past two decades, and especially to Todd for giving the people of this incredible city an inimitable experience selecting from and watching an unparalleled collection of rare films very few cities in the world possess. I am truly honored in having been able to spend the few brief months working at Wild and Woolly as I have and look forward to finishing out strong with such a great team of sincerely intelligent, fun, and hard working individuals. Louisville, we’re losing a real diamond in the rough come March, but as in all situations life lays in front of us there will inevitably be Positive emerging victorious over the Negative. XOXO. *bites off mic*
