praguesteps The Prague Loreto is the Baroque pilgrimage site from the first third of the 17th c. Its construction coincided with introduction of the Baroque art to Czech culture sphere and internal religious revival. The Loreto house - the Santa Casa - is a copy of the Santa Casa in Loreto in Italy. The original Santa Casa is the building that stood in Nazareth in Palestine. It was witness to sacred moment of the Incarnation when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive a child with the Holy Spirit. The outer walls of the Prague Santa Casa are decorated with Marian iconographic program including reliefs from life of the Virgin Mary, with an emphasis on the childhood of Jesus. The author of the decoration is Giovanni Bartholommeo Cometa. There is the wonder-working statue of Our Lady of Loreto in the interior of the Santa Casa.
