It uses the precooled hypersonic SABRE engine, which has two modes of operation: When the spaceplane takes off the engines are in air breathing mode, till it reaches mach 5.14 at 28km. It uses a lighweight precooler (heat exchanger) to cool atmospheric air entering the engine from 1000C to -150C in 0.01s. When the spaceplane reaches maximum speed and altitude for air breathing mode it switches engines to rocket mode and continues to Low Earth Orbit. It is expected to drop cost to put payload to LEO by an orser of magnitude.
