`s has asked to post this comment to clear the air about EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) food purchases (and for other services), and the problem that debit card problem that happened affecting consumers in some 18 or so states over the weekend-- ``Two things about the EBT problem: one, the debit problem had nothing to do with the U.S. government shutdown because most of the programmes are run by the state and contracted with private industry for the card accounts; and two, stores have been given instructions as to what procedure to follow, with forms to use in the event something like this were to ever happen. On the latter, I do not know why more retailers are acting like they don`t know this, because it`s in the paperwork they read and signed when they got licensed for EBT sales.
