(singing The Lord is My Light in sacrament meeting) Jesus es me - TopicsExpress

(singing The Lord is My Light in sacrament meeting) Jesus es me luz, en oscuridad- (power in the city suddenly cuts out, plunging the chapel into complete pitch blackness for the next 5 minutes) Want to hear firsthand about the missionary field, or start a one-on-one conversation of any sort? Want to hear back from me? I want to hear from all my friends back home! Just send an email to [email protected]! And I can receive letters and small yellow envelopes at this address: Elder Chad Flake Misión Argentina Resistencia Entre Rios 435 Resistencia, Chaco 3500 Castilla de Correro #1 Argentina It will take a bit of time (anywhere from 9 days to 6 weeks) for letters to get here, so remember email is usually quicker. Please don´t send me any packages without asking me first. I have very, VERY strict limitations on the number of packages I can receive and the contents of the packages. Talk with my family if you want to coordinate. Technical difficulties have hurt a lot of the email time here, so this letter will be a lot shorter. It also means I can´t talk about what I wanted to talk about, because LDS.org isn´t loading and I wanted to talk about a certain scripture and how it helped me a ton. So stay tuned for next week. I´ve been transferred! This time it´s a little bit of a longer transfer (about 30 kilometeres), but it´s still relatively close considering how big the mission is and how far away everybody is. I´m in a town called Puerto Tirol, which reminds me of one of those small towns in Southern Utah we drive through on the way to Arizona. It´s very nice and the people here are very friendly, and we´ll have a lot of success here. My new companion is Elder Escorcia from Colombia. He´s a convert of six years and an amazing, POWERHOUSE missionary. His testimony is really incredible and he´s an awesome inspiration to me. Also, he doesn´t speak English. One thing: He doesn´t have a lot of people that write him on P-day, because his parents don´t have internet access... so if you would really want to make his day next week, and if you know a little Spanish (or if you have a LOT of faith in Google Translate), you could send a short, inspirational note to [email protected]. Puerto Tirol is awesome, and it is beautiful. However, it´s really isolated from everything else, and it´s about 30 minutes away driving from any other city with missionaries. In fact, it´s so isolated, we have to take two buses each week to get to district meeting, and two buses back. Also, there´s not a cybercafé or a good place to buy groceries in the city, so we have to take the train an hour to get to Resistencia to do things for P-day and take it an hour to get back. So it´s REALLY out of the way, but we´re getting along. We´re the first elders in this area in a year and a half... the area´s been closed for a long, LONG time, and it opened back up six months ago, but exclusively with hermana misionaries up until now. Oh, and I should also mention... of the four missionaries in the city, I´m the only gringo (native English speaker). In fact, I am the only gringo in the zone. This letter is the most English I´ve spoken since I´ve been transferred. So this transfer will be a real test of my Spanish abilities, because I can´t speak English even if I wanted to. The pension is much nicer and much cleaner than the other, which is a real blessing. It was a hermana pension before, so that helped a lot with the cleanliness. It´s cosy, and it´s well outfitted with a good kitchen. Also, it´s a really teeny branch here, so that means we´re going to be cooking for ourselves almost every day. I´m fine with that... I can finally choose to go vegatarian for a while. (Argentina´s great, but eating a smorgasboard of meat for every meal gets old.) Only one little thing... the apartment doesn´t have air conditioning, and it´s been around 100 degrees in the shade! I´ve been taking a 2 minute cold shower every night before bed and before studies. But we´re going to work a TON here. There´s a lot to do. Elder Flake
