so DICKS SPORTING GOODS fires all 500 of its pros!! so what! if they make a huge hash of getting into bed so deeply with one manufacturer and now have 6-7 versions of that companies particular driver left on their shelves its their own fault! very poor management! heres a piece from a local report done on the problem We are selling drivers in our stores this spring for $99 that were approximately $299 20 months ago, Dicks CEO Ed Stack said after announcing earnings on May 20. Stack said at the time that the companys overall golf business missed its first-quarter sales plan by $34 million and that he expected a downward trend for the rest of the year. Dicks said it sold only 2 percent fewer drivers in the first quarter this year compared to the first quarter of 2013 but that the average price of those drivers was down 16 percent. On average, the golf business accounts for about 15 percent of Dicks overall revenues. As TaylorMades largest retailer, Dicks was hit hard after it bought all four models of the driver TaylorMade released last year. The glut of merchandise forced Dicks to sell at under the suggested retail price. i have to ask this question of all manufacturers except 2 (TITLEIST & NIKE who never bring out multiple products in the same year-good for them) WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BRING OUT SO MANY DIFFERENT PRODUCTS IN THE SAME YEAR. ITS PISSING CUSTOMERS OFF AND PUTTING THEM OFF YOUR COMPANY. WHY THE NEED FOR CONSTANT NEW PRODUCTS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR?? as a retailer i am met with this dilemma constantly. In my opinion nothings changed. 20 years ago the average handicap was 18. now , even with all the modern advances in club technology and better fitting facilities the average handicap is no better !!!! im sick to death of the way manufacturers keep pissing off the public, so much so that when pre books are done (very shortly) they may be in for a surprise from me!!! will i buck the trend and drastically cut my pre-books?? wait and see!
