so after several years, Ive finally had the courage to go thru my Grandmarys paperwork & heres a letter I found -- should put most things in perspective for most of us (sic on all the grammar & spelling): February 1, 1879 Well have got your letter and today is Saturday and I thought I would rite you an answer as I am not going to work today. I have been chopping wood this winter for fifty cents per day but the man says he will give me 75 cents the first of march. I expect to take a cow of him in the spring. I wish you could sell my cow pretty quick. I rote to Mason that he mite have her if he could send me fifteen dolars and pay the rest the first of april. you said mother thinks I want to come back. Tell her not to fret for I dont want to. I would dies if I had to move back there. I am as indipindint as a hog on ice. #alrightythen #themsmygenes LOL
