so first off im old, im 32, so this might not make sense to some younger ppl understandably. but i was listening to an old disco house mixtape this morning from 1997, and most of the disco samples were from around 1979 or so. 18 years later - taken out of context, made into something completely different. now its 2014. i can still play dance tracks from 18 years ago - 1996 and not really in an out-of-context way - i could drop one in my set and it would work with certain stuff thats brand new. what does that even mean? that music advanced way more in the 2 decades between the 70s and 90s than it has in the 2 decades between the 90s and now? i dont know if thats what it means but its kinda weird to think about.
