so i just realized that Loving God is a lot like riding a bike without training wheels for the first time. (for me at least) dad rolls out the bike from the garage and presents it to us, we didnt have to pay for it or ask for it; it is because he loves us that hes gotten it for us, he calls us to him and tells us its time to learn how to ride a bike, then he helps us get on it, making sure were firmly on the seat, our helmet is on, and our feet are on the pedals; then he kicks up the kickstand an asks us if were ready, when we hesitantly nod our head yes, full of a mix of excitement and terror, he begins to push us, telling us to peddle, faster and faster he pushes us, gaining up more and more momentum before letting go of us with an assurance of just keep peddling! we do, and we may go for quite a distance, but sooner or later we fall down and scrape our knees, being but the little children we are, we begin to cry out in pain and fear, so daddy comes over, helps us up, brushes us off and looks at our cuts and scrapes, with a reassuring its OK, i know it hurts a lot, but dont worry, youll be OK. through teary eyes we nod in agreement and he says something funny to try and make us laugh before encouraging us to get back on and try again. this however is where loving God is different, because many people, expecting to be as good as the big siblings who have been riding for years, and afraid of falling again, run off and never get back on the bike, and many of them spend the rest of their lives avoiding the bike as it gathers dust in the corner of the garage, fearful and distrustful of it because it didnt work out like they thought it was, stupid bike, it made them fall and hurt themselves and made them look silly. what they dont realize is that the the bike can change how they see and experience the world in such a revolutionary, changing, and freeing way! so it is with loving God, we must trust, though we may fall down, that we can get back up, get back on, and keep going, the more we peddle, the faster and farther we go, it can take us to the top of mountains and to the bottom of valleys quicker and easier than walking can.
