some interesting info I have gathered ... with permission to share ... 1] WEBPAGES >>>> [3] i] Fiscal Fairness for Coastal Communities fairbcferries/ https://facebook/FiscalFairness Twitter @fiscalfair About / Mission / Description We want an affordable, reliable marine highway & Fiscal Fairness from BC Ferries. The object of the Fiscal Fairness Campaign is to create a political climate to enable immediate and positive policy and structural changes to the BC Ferries Corporation, changes that will ensure fair, affordable, and reliable transportation infrastructure that will return economic sustainability to the coastal communities of BC based on the Fiscal Fairness Campaign Goals. Campaign Goals: 1. BC Ferries must be returned to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure as a part of the highway system; 2. BC Ferries, as part of the highway system, must have the same financing structure as any other highway project, in terms of capital expenditures, for example a PPP as done with the Port Mann Bridge, and operational expenditures, as any other toll highway; 3. Highway service to the ferry-dependent communities must be affordable; and, 4. Highway service to the ferry-dependent communities must be reliable, and the schedule must reflect the needs of the community. The Fiscal Fairness Campaign regarding the BC Ferry Corporation was launched by the Powell River Chamber of Commerce on November 25, 2013, and since then has attracted many other chambers of commerce and thousands of supporters. Coastal Communities are being crippled by ferry prices. We make up 20% of BCs population, produce 36% of tax revenue, and receive less than 8% of support including BC Ferries funding. Our Coastal Communities need a fair allocation of tax dollars, and marine highway service. .... + more on FB page ... ii] Ferry Hostage ferryhostage/ facebook/ferryhostage COUNT YOURSELF ON BOARD. Check out their website bcmarinehighway.org - intended to educate British Columbians about the significant role BC Ferries plays in coastal communities. We wish to shed light on the unreasonable series of cuts in service and the unsustainable growth in fares that is devastating rural coastal communities. We believe that BC Ferries is an integral part of the marine highway system and should be administered by the Ministry as it was prior to 2003 and the Coastal Ferries Act (2003). 2] FB “COMMUNITIES” [3] [ corresponding to the Webpages] >>> i] Fiscal Fairness for Coastal Communities [see webpage above] https://facebook/FiscalFairness @ 2735 FB likes Community Organization We want an affordable, reliable marine highway & Fiscal Fairness from BC Ferries.
