spanish is just as divers as Arabic and is a very rich language...the stars of the spanish novelas so loved all over the world are sent to classes to learn Spanish Modern. This way it actors from all over can be understood and when an argentine as cast as the son of a puerto rican the differences are so obvious and continuity in language is created. Spanish modern is good for beginners and then as you travel or are exposed to the specific group of spanish speakers you can then learn the variable differences. remember never say chamarra outside of mexico...lol....youll get some strange looks...lol...and of course there are such strange styles of spanish like the puerto rican and the argentine. the puerto rican can speak so fast and uses so many words and changes letters at first you might swear they all use meth and tell a 1000 page story in a matter of seconds. Argentines...well....they are in a class of their own..they speak and write a style call Lunfardo which is more of hybrid between Italian and Spanish and inappropriately use the pronoun vos which is so intimate that to use it so incorrectly anywhere else could cause severe insult. but it is pretty and a great to listen to in small dosages...but there understanding of personal space is very different..but their cute in their strangeness and one cannot help to be drawn into their uniqueness..its fun to try and speak like one of them for awhile....but only briefly...lol...:)
