steuuuuuuuuuuuuuppppppppppps PM targets SPORTT over Life Sport scandal By JADA LOUTOO Thursday, July 31 2014 ADVICE has been given to the Government so that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as head of Cabinet, can initiate legal action against directors of the Sport Company of TT (SPORTT) for breach of fiduciary duties relating to their role in awarding a multi-million dollar contract under the now defunct Life Sport programme. It appears the PM may take this advice and target SPORTT as Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, who is the one to take such action on Government’s behalf, confirmed he is in the process of reviewing the audit conducted by the Central Audit Committee of the Ministry of Finance into Life Sport, to look at areas where he can recover taxpayers’ money. Sources said legal advice was sought from Senior Counsel Russell Martineau on what actions can be taken against the company EBeam which was paid $34 million for providing literacy and numeracy skills to Life Sport participants, but did no work. Newsday understands the Prime Minister is on the verge of giving the directive for Ramlogan to file legal action against the board of directors of SPORTT, which signed the $34 million contract with educator Adolphus Daniell. The audit, commissioned by Prime MinisterKamla Persad-Bissessar in the wake of financial irregularities in Life Sport, revealed Daniell’s company EBeam Interact, was paid $34M but no work was ever executed. Daniell has said he would not return the $34 million earned from the programme because he did not default on his part of the contractual arrangement. Daniell’s $34 million payment was the single biggest payment of the programme for no work. The audit of the LifeSport Programme has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Commissioner of Police, the Integrity Commission and the head of the Public Service for actionto be taken where necessary. newsday.co.tt/news/0,198411.html
