#syed Knotty Math paper BOSE refuses re- examination: Students to be given grace marks; Paper- setter disqualified for 5years The Board of School Education ( BOSE) has refused to accept the demands of students and parents for re- examination of controversial Mathematics paper of class 12 held on October 28, saying the students would be awarded ‘ suitable grace marks.’ However, the Board has barred the paper- setter from any exam- related activity for five years after Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Tara Chand Friday ordered inquiry into the matter. He had asked Secretary BOSE to submit report on the ‘ irresponsible attitude’ of the concerned so that justice is done with the affected students and erring officials taken to task. The tough question paper had evoked angry reaction from students and parents. The BOSE officials said they have decided to take action against the paper setter to set an example and ensure that paper- setters are extremely careful in future while executing the responsibility entrusted to them. Officials said the BOSE decided to award suitable grace marks to the students after getting expert opinion on the knotty paper. “ The experts have recommended that the interest of students should be taken care of while checking the answer scripts,” officials said. Confirming the development, BOSE Secretary Renu Goswami said, “ The experts have opined that the paper was not out of syllabus or context. In their report they have given the reference numbers of the questions asked in the paper from the prescribed text books.They have revealed that the paper was imbalanced and recommended that students deserve the grace marks in the subject.” As reported earlier, BOSE had constituted a three- member panel to look into the complaint of class 12 students that Mathematics paper was twisted and hard to comprehend.
