tRUTH - I am going to offend a lot of people, but this ALS Bucket Challenge is stupid and quite offensive. If you want to donate - just donate. Doing this bucket challenge doesnt bring awareness to the disease because no one ever talks about what ALS disease actually is and how it affects a person and ultimately kills them. Its another excuse to get Likes on FB or be part of a massive media game. Its not a game when someone dies - My coworker lost his wife to this disease just a week and a half ago. If you actually want to help just donate to the ALS foundation or read this to help my friend. His wife was diagnosed 20 months ago and fought really hard. Medical bills piling up and he took days off of work to care for her. He is almost facing eviction and if any part of you really wants to help an actual person that went through caring for an ALS victim - please donate on his site. I am rounding up some people to also go to his place to help organize his living area. If any of this moves you to want to help in any way let me know. Love & Light ALS - ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn’t until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
