the arrival of autumn, or fall, whichever term you personally use, - TopicsExpress

the arrival of autumn, or fall, whichever term you personally use, is always a rime of sadness for me. Of all the moments in the year, this is the one which signals, death and endings. the plants stop blooming, the trees drop their leaves, the birds begin their migration away, and the weather begins to chill and skies often are grey. Fall frequently arrives in the blink of an eye, one day hot and sunny, and the next cool and damp and grey. it is not a time of anticipation of wondrous things to come, as spring and winter are. When the first frost takes place, and often before, there is a dread of the seemingly endless months of darkness and cold weather, and the ground being covered with increasing depths of snow. to me it is always a restless time as well, for a forced recess from my dearly loved outdoor activities, is put upon me, and I can only gaze longingly out at garden beds, and the blooms that lie beneath the frozen ground. the "fall colors" are not my favorites- I much prefer the bright and fanciful colors on the spectrum, that seem to revigorate the soul. the browns and tans and dark green and orange that fill this time, almost make me sad, and but for the spark of color that Christmas allows, I feel colorless until spring. I often feel lonelier at this time, and a pall sets over my mood, that is not because of the lack of sunshine, but because of the isolating feeling this time brings. I find it interesting that the holiday that most embraces togetherness in most people, Thanksgiving, falls now. It has never been a favorite of mine, as to me it was days and hours spent fixing a meal, that took 10 minutes to eat, and then forever again to clean up. I love seeing family whenever it takes place, but I much prefer a time that is not centered around a particular meal. so I come to this time period with very mixed feelings, and simply hope to make it through......
