the board of geologists just released the list of successful examinees. i know of one suriguena who hurdled the exam a certain ms kate boquilon. the chamber of mines in surigao will be offering for the first time the bs geology course in a local university this coming school year. this is to answer to the acute shortage of geologists in surigao del norte and del sur. the chamber is, in fact, in its fifth year of offering bs mining course. some a hundred or so students have enrolled in this course. it will have its first crop of graduates this coming march 2015. these 2 course are highly in demand not only by the mining companies in the two provinces but also by the bureau of mines and geosciences (bmg). at present, bmg has lost several of its geologists to the mining companies offering higher rates than in the state agency. geologists and mining engineers are even in demand all over the world. i guess metallurgists, too, are needed.
