the following letter was faxed today to all our representatives in US House and US Senate regarding the potential Syrian War Vote: September 6, 2013 From: The Muscogee County (GA) Republican Party Rick Allen, Chairman P.O. Box 8229 Columbus, Georgia 31909 To: The Honorable Johnny Isakson, U. S. Senator from Georgia The Honorable Saxby Chambliss, U. S. Senator from Georgia The Honorable Lynn Westmoreland, U.S. Representative from Georgia, District 3 The Honorable Sanford Bishop, U.S. Representative from Georgia, District 2 Cc: John Padgett, Georgia State GOP Chairman Subject: War Vote in the U.S. Congress Regarding Syria The news media are full of stories regarding a potential attack by U.S. Armed Forces against Syria. We, the Muscogee County (GA) Republican Party want to make it clear to you where we stand on this issue and request that you vote to support our position by opposing this proposed action when it comes to a vote. -- Syria has made no attacks or threats of attacks on the United States, and poses no imminent danger to our national security. Absent any such danger, any attack by U.S. forces against the Syrian government or any rebel forces must be considered an unprovoked aggression, i. e., an act of war. -- Any such attack would needlessly drag the U. S. into another regional conflict where there is no possibility of an outcome that would be favorable to U. S. interests. Further, there is no clear objective, and there is a strong likelihood that we would be forced to deepen and prolong our involvement due to “unexpected consequences” that cannot be ascertained beforehand. -- Syria is engaged in a civil war, and the United States has no right or reason to interfere, however horrible the casualties of that war may be. -- Not committing to a conflict that does not involve our national interests and only offers multiple negative outcomes is not “isolationism” as some neo-cons have recently stated, but is merely common sense. The majority of American people are opposed to military action against Syria. Therefore we sincerely encourage you to do the right thing by standing on your principles and voting against this unnecessary, intrusive, illegal and unconstitutional military foray into the crisis of the Syrian Civil War. Sincerely Rick Allen Chairman of the Muscogee County Republican Party
