the main problem ( in the ferguson situation and elsewhere) as i see it is the militarization of local law enforcement. there has been an DE-emphasis on traditional law enforcement . what we now call community policing. instead of police going out and fostering a relationship with the citizens and being part of the community and wanting to protect it from bad elements we now have the detachment of local law enforcement from the community who see the community as something to subjugate and to deal with. As the police are trained more and more in military tactics and are equipped with military hardware, we will continue to see situations like the one in Ferguson continue to happen and the myth of the jack booted thug become reality. as long as this continues to happens myself and others will continue to expose and oppose this trajectory.
