the real names of our people were destroyed by slavery - El Hajj Malik El Shabazz as Malcolm X. For Harvard University to support a Kuumba Singers in which the descendants of slaves are marginalized and not supported is deeply offensive to me. The Kuumba that I sang in was directed by an HBCU alum from Morehouse who taught us our Southern heritage. The present day Kuumba of Counter and Reid has lost its way and is a servant of the admissions office of David Evans, not a challenge for Harvard to live up to its potential to quickly bring marginalized citizens of America into the mainstream. Kuumba must be better. I, Too, Am Harvard must be better, and not idly watch the persecution of this alum by Dr. S. Allen Counter. Like Dr. Cornel West, I am now willing to get arrested to look my opponent in the eye and let him know that I am right and he is wrong. I am jobless and homeless in part due to your ban, Harvard. Its time for everyone in The Harvard Black Alumni Society to learn about your Dirty Deeds, Harvard, led by Gatekeeper Dr. S. Allen Counter, an assimilationist who may love his powerful rolodex more than the pursuit of justice for Black Men.
