We take the history of the current condition as well as a past medical and surgical history. We perform an orthopedic and neurological examination. The information from these procedures guides us to a diagnosis as well as a plan of care. If diagnostic imaging is indicated, the history and examination results guide us to the areas of concern. Just as important, it helps guide us away from medically unnecessary and costly diagnostic procedures. Once we have the findings of the consultation, examination, and diagnostic imaging, we can make an informed decision as to the type of care to provide the patient. It is at this point that we report the findings of the intake procedures to the patient and discuss the many treatment options available. Once the patient has indicated their understanding of the findings and the treatment options, we proceed with treatment.
