theology of art: God has brought two great works of art into existence: the created order (including the physical universe) and the creation of the new humanity, the Church. there is a greek word, used twice in the new testament, that refers to each of these works of art respectively. the word is poiema from which we get our english word poem. a poem is a work of art and implies an artist. in romans 1:20 (nasb) we read, for since the creation of the world His invisible attributes His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so they are without excuse. (what has been made), come from the one greek word poiema. through Gods work of art, His poem of creation, all men should know of Him and His existence. to deny Gods existence in the face of evidence, then, is to be without excuse--it is to suppress the truth.(rom.1:18) the second and only other time the word poiema is used in the new testament is in ephesians 2:10, which states, for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them....stephen k. ray (st. johns gospel: a bible study guide and commentary) Like
