this is Panu. as I told you he used to be very reactive and was also biting. we have been working hard together and here is one of our success stories - a christmas story: we are living on south crete in a small village far away from tourism. our roads are very narrow and many of them are unpaved - a nightmare for a car reactive dog. sometimes we meet a road grader and it really fills the road. Panu panicks then and begins to bark and attacks the engine. he is then biting into air around him and i have to take care not to get bitten when i try to protect him. some time ago this situation was here again. i saw the road grader coming and began to take precautions: i took Panu on short leash and looked for a place where we could go a bit away from the road. Panu was very strained and ready to attack but remained still calm. then suddenly Panus tension disappeared and he began to wag his tail relaxed. i was baffled and relieved. then i too saw what Panu has seen - the driver of this big engine was Panus friend, a guy who once bribed him by cretan zwieback (what Panu is not eating usually) and since Panu ate zwieback with this guy he loves him. but that he would trust him also when he was driving one of these horrible engines was new for me. i saw that i should not underestimate Panu. Panu seems to be able to differentiate where and how he becomes reactive - and then he has good reasons for it, even i perhaps dont understand them. but when he learns to trust someone or something his reactivity is over... i had learned something very important for our relationship and we are using it now in our training...
