this is a beautiful true story that i would like to share with all my fb friends. i just have an interesting fb dialgue with one of my former high school students. it begs the question, as a father, how much can you give to your children in your lifetime? his name is karlito. Karlito Yara. he is now based in lucena, but he used to have a lucrative job in north yemen and in saudi arabia when his children were just in the elementary school. then a time came when he realized his children needed his presence, and most of all his guidance. his wife was then working in manila at that time, so he decided to quit his job and go back to the philippines. it needs greatness of heart to do this, to understand the constraints of his working wife...to quit his lucrative job, and to confidently accept that its ok even if his income was not as big as before to ensure that their children would grow up as good persons and would finish their studies. which they did. both are now working: one is with tourism in manila, and one at denr. and this is my response to him: karlito, whenever i hear that most of you are already married with children, i feel like, sus...ganon na katagal? you did the wisest choice, to give yourself to your children, to give them guidance, to give them love, to teach them faith in Him. they will in turn give the same to their families when the time comes, and your self-giving is how they will remember you. there is a great russian writer who said that when we are gone, something of us remains...it is our memory...how people we love will remember us. longfellow, in his poem a psalm of life said, lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime and, departing, leave behind us footprints in the sands of time. if to be a hero is to be great, then to be a hero in the eyes of our family makes us great men. cheers to all loving parents, like you.
