this is a long paulitical post, but in light of obamas - TopicsExpress

this is a long paulitical post, but in light of obamas unprecedented announcement on immigration tonight, extended context and analysis is needed to set the record straight: here are 22 times obama said he couldnt do what hes about to do tonight on immigration: j.mp/1vpf0cu .its quite amusing to read them all but ill save you time and highlight a couple: With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed... We’ve got three branches of government. Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws. There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as President.” (3/28/11) “I know some here wish that I could just bypass Congress and change the law myself. But that’s not how democracy works. See, democracy is hard. But it’s right. Changing our laws means doing the hard work of changing minds and changing votes, one by one.” (4/29/11) so its crystal clear the constitutional lawyer doesnt agree with what hes about to do tonight. lol. what about the public? according to the respected nbc/wall st journal poll released yesterday, only 38% of the public support the president’s planned immigration order, while a full 48% disapprove. for a little more context, there was a midterm election a couple weeks ago. in september and october, obama made sure to let the public know that my policies are on the ballot, for reasons no democratic (or republican) strategist could understand. democrats proceed to get trounced on november 4. normally after election losses of that magnitude, the losing president recalibrates their strategy, hires new staff, adjusts policies, and extends bipartisanship and good will to congress. not barack. i think hes genuinely pissed/baffled at how the majority of Americans cant see how great his policies are. were just too stupid! (#gruber). if he vetoes the keystone pipeline bill from the new senate in january, then strap up because theres a good chance he goes full dgaf/kamikaze for the last two years. its pretty wild to see the damage the obama administration has done to the democratic party nationwide: In 2009, Democrats had 60 senators; in 2015, they will have 45. In 2009, Democrats had 256 members of the House; in 2015, they will have 188. In 2009, Democrats had 28 governors; in 2015, they will have 18. In 2009, Democrats controlled both legislative chambers in 27 states; in 2015, they will control only 11. Thank you to all the democrats who voted for the president twice, because Barack Obama is the greatest builder of the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan. -George Will, yesterday
