this is not a political post but rather some person thoughts - apologies in advance for the disorder. I feel safer when Im with my kids and can go with them to the shelter, hear the rocket explode and go back to whatever we were doing (provided we are 40 seconds from the shelter for the next siren). But I have to work so today i went into the office and to important meetings at the Knesset. and Eyal stayed with them and tried to take them to my parents. the first few times he couldnt even make it 1 km out before the siren wailed and they sped to shelter but my heart races every time I think of them on the open road where there is no shelter and we are instructed to stop the car. I imagine them getting out of the car, lying on the ground, Eyal on top of them, waiting for the rocket to hit somewhere else. for the next 3-4 minutes until Eyal answers my call and tells me they are alive (they cant be well after that experience) my heart races so quickly, quicker than I can ever remember. we have developed sensitive hearing and for the most part, can hear it in the first 10 seconds the rocket is headed in our direction. I hear the siren even when there isnt one- while Im in the shower (so i turn off the water once every 2-3 minutes to make sure), while Im sleeping and while Im driving. Im remembering the first few days we spent in Boston when my kids heard the fire trucks and asked where the closest shelter was. happily, I told them that we were on a sabbatical from that for the year. We have been harshly launched back into our reality in Israel, one that I find painful and frightening. we are facing the hardest of challenges - how to live together in peace. So many questions and thoughts flood my mind but there are too many background noises - the sirens, rockets and bombs pierce my thoughts and I cant concentrate. when the ceasefire is in effect (hopefully soon, today, now) we must do what we can- I must do what I can- to make peace our reality.
