this morning as i was doing chores, God really told me to post 2 definitions today, regarding certain issues of this important season of lent...this is the first of the 2 definitions that God asked me to post: Repent defined, is often a word that we want to avoid...we think of repenting as being a bad thing, a hard thing, giving up something we love, we crave, something that is part of our nature and somehow God is saying that we have to give up something that we love and want...but that is not exactly true... we can look around us, observing our world and we can see violence all around...we can see disrespect and abuse all about...yet we turn a blind eye or worse yet, are drawn into it in some way by the pressures of our society to push the envelope of morality and what was once thought of as normal...we accept these changes to a moral core as the norm...regarding violence we often say, since it did not directly affect me, i dont really care...and in regards to our changing moral direction, we either go along with it or ignore it...but we all can see the imploding of our society, and the killings, the abuses, the injustice continue...and we go along with it as the way of changing times, or we throw our hands up in defeat, hide in our homes in front of our computers, watching our television programs and movies, playing our video games...many of which glorify the decline of our society and fuel the hunger for violent excitement...how discouraging... but what are we to do? try this...repent...trust me...many of you that know me, hear me say over and over again, that the place i love to be more than any other place, is on my knees before my Lord...in the church, in my home and even in my heart...i have learned that being on my knees, honoring, revering and worshiping God, happens to be the best place i can be and is actually a very comfortable place to start learning the validity and cleansing power of repenting...think of it this way, simply crawling up onto the lap of our Daddy...Abba, Father... repenting is not a bad thing, it is not a painful or punishing thing...but in fact, it is an amazing place of refreshing and cleansing peace, of resolution and of power, in that our repenting before our Heavenly Father, taking on such a position of being on ones knees simply asking God to forgive us all for our error that clearly causes pain and destruction to so many, well in taking on such a position and disposition, you will be surprised how refreshing it is...it is not a punishment, nor a place of discomfort, but in fact, a place of hope, refreshment and love... lets get on our knees and repent for all that mankind has done in rebellion to God, that ultimately hurts us all...rather than glorifying the violence that dominates our world as an entertainment, why not get on our knees before our Creator and ask Him what we can do to stop the violence and killing that we see day in and day out on the news, in our neighborhoods and cities and that even resides as the core of entertainment...oh, how sad...Lord have mercy on us...
