#throwback Remember this? O you who believe, when the call to prayer is made on the day of Jumuah [Friday], then hasten to remember Allāh, putting aside your business. This is better for you, if only you knew. [al-Jumuah: 9] When QMUL re-launched the #RightToPray campaign in November 2013, we didnt anticipate the extent of support wed receive from those close to us - from universities across London, Muslims and non-Muslims alike standing in solidarity with a cause they felt an affinity with regardless of our differences. And what was the objective of this campaign? To bring to the Universitys attention the inadequacy of the Friday prayer provisions which (then) hindered many brothers and all of the sisters at QMUL from praying their one-off, weekly congregational prayers in a safe and comfortable facility. This motion was passed by His Help and Permission al hamdulillāh, and since then, the College and its Students Union has facilitated the Islamic Society (ISoc) in booking the adequate venues which would allow the ISoc to accommodate BOTH brothers and sisters at the appropriate Friday-prayer time-slot. However, recently, due to logistical reasons and availability of the venues on campus, for the next few weeks, we at QMUL will be commencing Jumuah at the later time of 1.05pm. The ISoc apologises for any inconvenience caused. We are aware of other congregations taking place around the University campus where brothers and sisters may want to attend instead. Thats totally fine. But the ISoc will continue to work with the University and Students Union to facilitate the most suitable arrangements for Friday prayers so that our brothers and sisters can pray in a manner of convenience and without the need to trek off campus to fulfil this obligation (ref. to brothers). . May Allāh grant all the brothers and sisters at QMUL and elsewhere ease in their affairs, and guide us to that which Pleases Him, Ameen. BarakAllāhu feekum. Wassalāmu Alaykum, Queen Mary Islamic Society O you who believe, seek assistance in patience and prayer, for indeed, Allāh is with those who are patient. [al-Baqarah: 153]
