to my fb friends,i would like to share a little memory of a time wheni was in the funeral industry ,for those of you who didnt know ,i was a funeral director in halifax for many yrs .what that means is i made arrangements and took care of needs of the famiies that lost loved ones . my story is this ,one particular family had lost thier dad ,i forget a lot of details, however ,he was a veteran of the second world war. now ,for thoseof you who dont know , there is generally a smaller service held for veterans by veterans either the night before or shortly before the funeral service itself .it was just before this particular service for this man that i noticed another veteran dressed in his legion uniform and many medals on his chest ,which made me think he must have been in or seen a lot of action of some kind ,going around to his comrades shaking hands ,giving hugs ,and generally being very optismistic considering theman that had died must have been well liked because for the most part, his comrades were very upset , more so than what ive been used to seeing . but after this gentleman with all the medals spoke to them ,things seemd to change ,a more calmer atmospher took place . i didnt really pay a lot of attention to it at the time because i was busy getting thigns ready , however after the service was done , i went to the man witht he medals and introduced myself and i asked what it was that he was saying to the rest of the men . he put his hand on my shoulder and said son, when your in a foxhole with bullets flying over your head , your buddies screaming in fear ,and men dying all around you ,someone had to keep them going .i guess im still doing it i didnt say a word ,he smiled , and walked away . just i memory i was having today since remembrance day is apon us once again .
