to my fellow comic book nerds (if youre saying GRAPHIC NOVELS! in your head, im talking to you), i have a question in dire need of an answer: marvel has been very coy, in the cinematic universe, at least, as to the national or international allegiance of SHIELD. they seem to be analogous to americas NSA or CIA, which makes sense, as STRIKE bears a great resemblance to MI6. both seem answerable to SWORD, which is clearly above any national agency, and is likely a global agency. my question being, have the CIA, NSA, or any agents thereof, ever been depicted in a modern marvel comic? marvel has seemed to shy away from harsh or incisive political criticism after 1973, when they hinted at then-President Nixon being a super-villain. but now that theyre depicting the US military in their movies, its a question that begs to be answered.
