to my local rescue and trappers: here is important info that Gretchen (cat coordinator at the clinic) sent me from HO. let me know what dates may work for you that she mentions and if you are still planning on helping, and what type of help (lending a trap, setting traps, loading cats etc ) also if anyone has a pair of binoculors I could borrow I would appreciate it. I need to start keeping a specific count of cats/markings and try to see if any have an ear tip already or not and I cant see that far and most run away when i get too close except for a few. Ok here is here message: I would really like to talk with the owner first and coordinate an effort all at once if possible with the volunteers. It is easiest to trap cats in one big grouping. Then go back the night that the cats stay at the clinic post op and get whatever cats are left if possible. It is the quickest and easiest way to get a large group like this but we need to do it on a day we have the appointments available to support this amount of trapping. Bringing in 20 walk in appointments would cause major problems here at the clinic since we can only handle so many walk in appointments per day. I already have a 30 cat colony that I am doing on the 29th and the next time I have 20 appointments available would be September 30th (trapping Monday Sept 29th), Oct 2nd (trapping Wed Oct 1st) or Oct 6th (trapping Sunday Oct 5th). I am guessing we could have the best number of volunteers on a Sunday evening if you are willing to wait. Are we sure there are 20 cats because I dont want to take all the appointments for that day if we do not have that many cats to bring in? We do not have any trapping under that address but if someone was trapping there in the past and did not use the colony address, then it might be under a persons personal address instead. There has not been any coordinated effort there done by anyone that works at the clinic that I know about. Meanwhile, if someone could feed them at the same time every evening until we can get this organized, then they will be on a routine and be out there at the right time. It would even be best if you can feed between 6-8pm then pick up the food so that they are use to being out there at the correct time. Then I can get the HO van and transport them all that night.
