The Flight by Chad Watkins Rays of sunlight softly entered the room As I stood within the frame of the door. You awoke to spy my glowing figure Which you first thought was an angel of lore. Though twelve years my junior, you pursued me Through the seasons and across stretches of miles. Discarded fears and unrequited dreams Reversed the time clock and rewound its dials. Promises, pillow talk and sweet nothings Led to bubble wrap and moving boxes. From magnolia to evergreen trees, I followed the siren call of your voxes. The red curtain opened on a new act Which drew applause by only half the crowd. When the microphone and spotlight were off, Your empty words and my doubts echoed loud. In the end, you stripped your hand of my grasp And idly watched as I slipped from glory. I wandered realms of barb wire and disease But spread my wings to start a new story!
