#tristatewx May 24, 2014: Noon - Updated weekend forecast to discuss thunderstorm chances... Changes since last update 1. **Biggest change** Added isolated thunderstorms to the forecast for this afternoon into Sunday afternoon. I already had them in the Monday forecast (stray thunderstorms). Left that unchanged. 2. Adjusted temperature forecast for today into Sunday night. 3. Slightly adjusted wind speed and direction forecast for Monday. My only concern is isolated shower/thunderstorm chances in the heat of the day (summer type pattern). Also a weak disturbance near the area tonight could pop a few overnight storms. If you have outdoor plans/camping then at least check your radar app from time to time. I cant rule out a few pop-up thunderstorms over the coming 3 day period. Not expecting widespread rain or storms - just a few scattered about. With that said, it only takes one to ruin a picnic! :) The atmosphere will be a bit more unstable on Sunday. CAPE values (energy values) will be higher. If a few thunderstorms form on Sunday then they could produce quite a bit of lightning, brief heavy downpours, small hail, and gusty winds. Keep that in mind. Again, not looking at widespread thunderstorms, but at least a few will pop up in the area. Long range - An unsettled weather pattern is possible later next week as an area of low pressure moves into the Tennessee Valley. This could bring additional shower and thunderstorm chances to the region. Uncertain about severe weather chances with next weeks storm system - will monitor, as always. Wont spend too much time on the details for next week. Focus is mainly on the short term update. Forecast details... Saturday/today - Some clouds and mild. A couple of showers and thunderstorms possible during the afternoon. High temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. East/southeast winds at 5-10 mph. Saturday night - Partly cloudy with a few pop-up thunderstorms possible. Overnight lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. East winds at 5 mph. Sunday - Partly sunny and mild - a few pop-up thunderstorms will be possible. High temperatures in the lower to middle 80s. Southeast winds at 5-10 mph. If a thunderstorm develops on Sunday then it could produce quite a bit of lightning, brief heavy downpours, small hail, and gusty winds. Sunday night - A few clouds and mild. Overnight lows in the 60s. Southeast winds at 5 mph. Monday - Partly sunny and humid. A stray thunderstorm possible. Warm. High temperatures in the upper 80s. Southerly/southwesterly winds at 10 mph. Monday night - Just a few clouds and mild. Low temperatures will be in the 60s.
