update on Briggs Berry UPDATE ON BRIGGS By DeAnna Berry — 35 minutes ago Dearest family and friends, What a day it has been! After a very long 8 hours of waiting, we finally got to lay our eyes upon our beautiful son. I need to start by giving God ALL PRAISE and thanks for HIS mercy and goodness for Briggs. During the first part of the surgery to do the central line, Briggs was not doing well on his breathing at all and they needed to give him albuterol to save his life. During the very long and tedious removal of his spleen, Briggs lost over 2.5 liters of blood and needless to say, things became very critical, very quickly. The surgeon had to call in another surgeon, anesthesiologist , nurses and other staff to help in saving Briggs life. Briggs doctor and his team worked very hard, and due to all of their efforts and Gods great plan, we still have our son. The doctors original plan was to remove his spleen through a scope, but after trying that method, they quickly realized, that Briggs spleen was bigger than the size of a football and your typical spleen is the size of an average fist. So needless to say, Briggs had to be cut wide open and is left with a huge incision that will leave Briggs with a pretty impressive scar, that I know he will be proud to show off. Lol Briggs is not out of the woods yet, but we pray that over the next 24 hours, he will be. He is stable tonight and getting much needed rest on the ventilator. We ask for continued prayers for protection over Briggs and no infection and that his counts and platelets would start going back up. NO MORE SETBACKS, ONLY GOOD DAYS OF HEALING AND RESTORATION AHEAD.
