vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/apa/4367753591.html Warning to potential tenants in Vancouver. My fiancé and I just moved out of this suite. After what we have been through, I strongly feel the need to warn others about why we left. First I must state the first obvious issue that you will encounter if you move in: the young boy who lives in the apartment above plays drums. When we were viewing the apartment, we were told that it was a very musical building and it is, but I had never imagined that he meant that there were drums above the apartment that would be played most weekdays between 3 and 7:30PM and weekends starting at 10:00AM. The second issue that you will encounter, will also occur quite soon after you move in, granted you try to nicely request that you be allowed a sleep-in day on Saturday, or a Sunday afternoon to catch up on homework in peace and quiet: the grandmother of the boy who plays drums can be quite aggressive and even physically violent. I dont think that I need to go into a lot of detail here, but I will say that it can be quite shocking to have someone enter your home and yell at you after a simple request that you believed to be quite reasonable. The following four issues that you will invariably run into after the first two will occur in sequence if you go to the building manager to report what has happened with the drums/lady upstairs thus far in your short tenancy: the grandmother is the building managers sister, and the building manager doesnt feel the need to protect the fact that you are a renter, not a house-guest and therefore have rights. He will tell you that he will talk to the lady about stopping the drums, and when he finally does the next issue will occur when she storms around the apartment above you, slamming doors and stomping on the floor to display her displeasure. It may have been more wise to have just dealt with living with the drums at this point because the boy who plays the drums will also start walking up and down the walkway outside your apartment talking about how much he hates the people who live downstairs and how mean they are. I could continue on describing in detail all the other issues that weve had in the last two years (or just under) but I will instead leave you with a concise (but incomplete) list of everything else. 1. The boy upstairs mother frequently visits and sits on the stairs outside near the bedroom window and talks on her cell while smoking cigarettes 2. There is no way to control the heating, and it gets quite hot in the winter 3. If you open the windows to cool the apartment, people will look in the windows 4. There have been two fires in the building in the past three months 5. There was a mandatory fire alarm testing initiated by the fire department that we were not told about, my fiancé woke up to find people in our living room and almost attacked one because he didnt have his glasses on and thought we were being robbed 6. There was a leak in the building that lasted a week and a half, which took place right before the fires started 7. Almost all of the electrical sockets spark when you plug something in 8. There are ants everywhere, and no way, at least that I found over the course of two years, to get rid of them 9. The kitchen sink floods/backflows dirty water/food from the drains from the apartments above it 10. Due to the leaks mentioned above, the ceiling was ripped out still not fixed two and a half months later when we finally moved
