via Al PhaLo What types of organizations occur at each level of development? Frederic Frederic Laloux new book Reinventing organizations looks at how organizations have evolved over time. And what might be the next evolution of what organizations look like - which would be the teal stage in Integral theory. He says that teal organizations allow groups to self-organize and self-regulate within these organizations. These groups in turn have a lot more autonomy and power to do what they want. They coordinate with other people/projects in the organization by checking in with other groups when their actions affect them. People do not necessarily have to stay with a group if they dont want, they can switch groups. So the mark of a good leader/influencer is one who convenes a group and has people work within it. Amber organizations work by command and control. Orange by predict and control. Teal works by sense and respond. Amber works for with long term plans and has conformist and strict hierarchy that does not change that much. Orange is a meritocracy. Green emphasizes servant leaders, where the people at the top are there to empower people on the front lines. Power is decentralized to the people at the traditional bottom. Teal allows the structure within it to reorganize. So new hierarchies can form and dissolve. Orange is about giving value to shareholders. Shareholders own the company. Green is about giving value to all stakeholders - from customer, to shareholder to community. All stakeholders own the company. Teal is about the energy field which is sensed into follow its evolutionary impulse. Because it is constantly emerging and evolving it cannot be owned. Examples of teal organizations are Morning Star (which makes tomato sauce), Valve (a software organization), holocratic organizations, Buurtzog( a nursing organization), and FAVI ( a manufacturing organization). Website for the book is reinventingorganizations . You can download it, and then a month later decide how much you would like to pay for it (which I think is an interesting business model, is it a teal colored business model ? ) ...
