via Alan Heaths History Page Oskar Schindler signed an initial lease to obtain his future factory in Kraków on 13 November 1939. As seen in the film, he persuaded some Jewish businessmen to put up the money and got advice from Itzhak Stern on the deal although why he did it is a mystery to me as the company had gone bankrupt before the war in June 1939 and had had financial problems for some time before then. The factory produced enamelware and was originally called Pierwsza Małopolska Fabryka Naczyń Emaliowanych i Wyrobów Blaszanych Rekord. He renamed the factory Deutsche Emaillewaren Fabrik (DEF). However due to the war, thanks to military orders, the factory became a great success, made Oskar a fortune which he then spent on trying to save the lives of his workforce. Today the factory is a museum and you can see what it now looks like in this film. https://youtube/watch?v=5KP8ZyMOcoo
