via Jon Medeiros: Al Anderson Ever since Alexis de Tocqueville wrote about our nation in 1835, we have existed in the minds of the multitudes around the world as exemplars for the meme, .............when citizens are all almost equal, it becomes difficult for them to defend their independence against the aggressions of power. As none of them is strong enough to fight alone with advantage, the only guarantee of liberty is for everyone to combine forces. But such a combination is not always in evidence. while simultaneously making Democracy work. It has only worked because of the individuals who have stepped up and taken personal responsibility for ensuring that Democracy will succeed. The actions of this officer in semi Fascist Florida, are a sterling example of this. He has been, and is willing to risk his livelihood and career upon the outcome of his standing for what he perceives to be the right thing. This is the antidote for Tyranny. But, it will not work unless enough of us take it.
