via Kim Komando: Pope Francis isnt just the leader of Catholicism, hes also an avid social media user. His English-language Twitter account has 4.3 million followers, and hes called the Internet a gift from God. A recent statement from the pope warned against overusing the Web. Our life is made up of time, and time is a gift from God, so it is important that it be used in good and fruitful actions. Activities cited by Francis as futile were: chatting on the Internet or with smartphones, watching TV soap operas, and (using) the products of technological progress, which should simplify and improve the quality of life, but distract attention away from what is really important. I love Pope Franciss message. Technology and gadgets are built to save us time and make our lives better. We have to make sure that our kids understand that tech shouldnt be allowed to take over their lives. Ive shared the popes words with my son Ian, and I was really glad when he agreed. The pope also said that the world of social media needed a little more calm, reflection and tenderness if it was to be a network not of wires but of people. People bask in the glory of anonymity, but its important to understand that theres always another person behind the keyboard. If you cant help yourself from arguing with a friend on Facebook, for example, you might want to unsubscribe from their feed. Click here to find out how to do that along with 9 other Facebook tips that you arent using.
