via World Football News Tottenham are ready to show their ambition in the transfer market this summer as they attempt to show Gareth Bale that they are serious about helping him achieve his personal ambitions without needing to change clubs. Spurs, who narrowly missed out on Champions League football on the last day of the season to arch rivals Arsenal, are in desperate need of some firepower up front with the misfiring duo of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor not good enough to lead them to glory. According to reports in the Daily Mail, Spurs have identified Spanish striker Roberto Soldado as the man who will end their scoring woes next season and are ready to shatter their club record transfer fee to sign the former Real Madrid reject. Soldado’s club Valencia have reportedly placed a £20 million price tag on the player’s head, and while Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is certain to drive a hard bargain, it appears pretty certain that he will exceed the £16.75m Tottenham paid Dinamo Zagreb to sign Croatian playmaker Luka Modric in 2008. The signing of Soldado is particularly crucial with Spurs having made no headway in signing other targets, Leandro Damiao, Hulk and David Villa. -Kola Taure
