waking up to a blanket of snow implies there was some enjoyment in looking outside my bedroom window today. instead, I propose we rephrase this metaphor in order to be a more realistic interpretation... how about this: a colourless suffocating overbearing hand that crept across the newly budding, fragile offerings of spring, choking its victims mercilessly in a cold, harsh caking of uselessness as uninviting and unwanted as the rind of a rotting fruit, served as the rude awakening to which I was subjected to this morning
