we have arrived. adjustments are slow going for Lil P, and it doesnt help that today she is home with a fever. ;-( Lil P started school last Tuesday, cause who would want to start a new school on a Monday? Its been a whirlwind of figuring things out. When I enrolled Lil P and Big Sis the end of August I provided copies of IEP, Tech assessments, OT assessments... and was promptly given a consent to evaluate by the Special Ed rep. While filling out paperwork, talking with the counselor, and fielding questions from others who popped in and out of the room. It was like facing the firing squad. I got that they have 60days to do their eval and all that, but shouldnt they be trying to follow things in her IEP in the meantime? The lady even said something like look at her IEP from VA and their evaluations and then develop a DE IEP. Um, arent IEPs federal? I understand that thinks may look a bit differently, and that adjustments will be made, but... Yesterday Lil P said she had a pop quiz that was mostly writing. She asked her teacher when she would be given a laptop to use for typing. The teacher said you type your written work? Lil P told her that she was diagnosed with Dysgraphia and writes short assignments, but does most of her written work with a computer. The teacher said she didnt know that and would be applying for her to have an alpha-smart. Same kind of thing happened with Lil P asking if she should be going with the kids that were leaving for small group testing. Were the teachers not given notice of Lil Ps IEP? Are we just supossed to let her flounder until we meet the very end of October? AND I thought kids were to attend IEP meetings at 14, not 12. My head is spinning with all the moving, unpacking, teen drama, adjustments with school differences and I am about to explode with too much input. Lil P is taking things in stride. Her biggest comments have been about how her jeans are fitting, the work is too easy, and how ridiculous and redundant the work is for classwork and homework. how many times do I have to label this microscope and say what the parts do? One moment at a time right? Delaware people... any tips or insights about IEPs in Delaware? And why is there a $0.04 bottle deposit when I buy a bottle of coke? If its a deposit, how do I get that back?
