well...I just saw Elysium yesterday...to call it a flop is to give it a huge compliment! I had a whole rant prepared with examples of why this movie is so horrible but I felt there must be a better way to discuss the subject. bummed out by yet another underwhelming sci-fi movie (europa report was just as bad in its own way) I turned to find comfort in the golden oldies and realized I had yet to watch network! a 1976 film from director Sidney Lumet. although at first all I wanted was to erase my painful Elysium experience I quickly realized these two movies are saying the same thing! the corruption of big business and the struggle of the common man trying to oppose these heartless giants is the theme of both Elysium and Network. Granted, Network looks at things from the television perspective rather then the global poverty angle but the msg is the same. the difference between the two films is in the content, the acting and compelling characters that Sidney Lumet creates without the need for a single visual effect or cheap trick distractions... I highly recommend watching Network. Spellbound by the compelling performances of every single cast member I suddenly realized how much I identified with Howard Beales cry to action Im as mad as hell and Im not gonna take it anymore! youtu.be/qnGgsJ26dao
