west-midlands.police.uk/latest-news/press-release.asp?ID=4906 A MAN has been charged with the murder of Coventry toddler Mariam Alam. Detectives from West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit arrested the 35-year-old at his home on Fisher Road in the Foleshill area of the city today (Tuesday 9 July). Following a brief appearance at Coventry Magistrates Court today, the man was remanded in custody to appear at the city’s crown court on Thursday 11 July. Mariam Alam died in hospital on 30 November 2011 after ambulance crew were called to a house in Fisher Road, Foleshill. A post mortem examination revealed that she died of serious head injuries. The man has already been charged with perverting the cause of justice in relation to the child’s death, in February this year. Two other people, a 26 year old woman and a 33 year old man were also charged with perverting the cause of justice in connection with the child’s death and are due to appear at Coventry Crown Court on Friday (12 July).
