when calzaghe retired ward wasnt considered the best, even in the super six after calzaghe had retired, kessler was the favourite, so how did he duck him? in the hopkins fight i thought hopkins out thought / fought him for the first five rounds knocking calcaghe down once, then calzaghe started to take over and hopkins started play acting saying he was hit low (they werent low just hopkins being the wily fighter he was stalling to get a rest and maybe hoped to get a point deducted from calzaghe) i thought calzaghe won the last 7 rounds so i had calzaghe winning by 1 pt, but it was a close fight and could of gone either way maybe a draw would of been fairer , and hopkins even today at his ripe old age is still beating world class fighters hes hardly past it? hes still relevant. calzaghes problems were he had small hands for a supermiddle weight and he kept damaging them, his slapping style which a lot condone was brought about because he would break his hands when he hit hard ( a problem as we know a lot of hard punchers have to deal with ) ward is a superb technician who does really well against southpaws like calzaghe, how would calzaghe do against ward is anyones guess, calzaghe was what i would call a swarmer, he would throw in bursts coming in and out at different angles, wards a savy technician whos great defensively and inside fighting, i feel ward might of just nicked it if they ever fought but it would of been a great fight. i think calzaghe retired because of hand problems if i remember, also atheletes like calzaghe (roy jones come to mind) dont age as well as technicians like (mayweather, ward) , i think calzaghe also realised this and retired at the right time.
