when you love someone / you are scared of getting hurt / and you - TopicsExpress

when you love someone / you are scared of getting hurt / and you will get hurt... Brandon Scott Gorrell, poet The fairy-tale phrase, happily ever after holds an implication of being loved ever after as well. We are taught from childhood that love is a fixed element, and once in place, it does not alter. Being loved and loving someone else fixes everything in our lives. But this image of love does not do it justice. It sets up false expectations. We feel betrayed when it waxes or wanes, and most especially when we are hurt. But all this is part of loves true nature. The act of loving is always one of courage and risk. Loving makes us vulnerable, as it must. This open state of being is what allows us to receive loves many blessings. But it also opens us up to loves shadow self, the instrument of hurt. Todays centering thought: I refuse to run away from love because I am afraid of being hurt.
